Mexican trios and the Cuban song form called the Bolero had both been around for many years. But, neither one had gained world-wide popularity until the formation in 1944 of the Mexican-Cuban trio known as "Trio Los Panchos". The rest is history. They went on to become one of the most popular Latin-music trios ever, whose style and sound have been imitated, but never duplicated.
