| | An Irish Lullaby Here is a lovely melody that has an unmistakable folk song quality about it. This is expressive music that allows the band to play in the rubato style, with lots of room for expression. Composer Stephen Bulla first found this tune in an old British publication dated 1935, simply called "Irish Air". This setting is a rhapsodic treatment that takes fragments of the melody, and develops them into a large symphonic work.

Estimated Performance Time: Technical Notes: Note To The Conductor: As noted above, the music is very expressive and will require the freedom of tempi variances to allow the band to play in this style. Dynamics can contribute as well, especially with the rise and fall of phrase shaping. Rehearse unison lines for blend and uniformity of legato approach (ie: trumpets at measure 73). Balance may be an issue for flute 1 and clarinet 1 at measure 57. Depending on the number of players in these sections, it may be more appropriate to put one on each part here. The final section at measure 131 is marked "Meno mosso" and can be very relaxed and unrushed as the music comes to a peaceful close. Composer(s): Stephen Bulla | Instrumentation:
