Edna-Mae Burnam has created a wonderful set of technical exercises that can be used with any method book. The idea behind creating "A Dozen A Day" is that just like many people get up early and exercise before they start their day, piano players should exercise their fingers before practicing. The purpose of the series is to help develop strong hands and flexible fingers. Each book contains five groupings of twelve exercises. Do not feel rushed to learn the first twelve right away. To get the most use out of this book, learn two or three exercises and play them each day before practicing, then add more until those are learned. Once you have mastered group one, then move on to the next group. Transposing these exercises is highly recommended as this will build up facility in all key signatures. If you buy the book with the accompaniment CD, it features all of the exercises being performed with a piano playing the notes in the book and a synthesized back-up band. It is a wonderful combination to play along with. | This music has a difficulty rating of 1 on a scale of 1 to 6 with 6 being the hardest. |
