In the late 1980s, producer Warren Schatz presented a series of theme records with the Hampton String Quartet. One of them was "What If Mozart Wrote Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". The idea was to record a series of Christmas carols, each written in the style of a different classical composer. The recording presented such a joyful twist on these holiday favorites that Cherry Lane Music Co. borrowed the idea, and created this unique songbook.
