According to the song, when "a little bit of Heaven fell from out the sky one day", the angels left it there and called it Ireland. The song, composed by Ernest R. Ball, with lyrics by J. Keirn Brennan, was performed by Chauncey Olcott in the three act musical "The Heart Of Paddy Whack", and became even more popular.
