In 1986, thrash metal band Metallica released the album "Master Of Puppets". Bolstered by around-the-clock radio airplay and continual coverage on MTV, the album became the biggest selling release for Metallica to date. Already considered "metal gods" by those in the metal movement, the album's mass consumption led to a broader appeal to audiences of all types.
