| | Largo This beautiful melody is often heard during weddings and many sacred occasions, although it has a timeless appeal that will make it ideal for any concert situation. You could use it for a contest piece, or as a nice slow-tempo concert piece. Either way, you get to hear some nice music, and your students are given the experience of playing some great G.F. Handel music.

Estimated Performance Time: Technical Notes: George Frederic Handel (1685 - 1759) is considered to be one of the greatest composers of the late Baroque period (1600 - 1750) and the innovator of England's oratorio. Though sources differ as to the origins of Handel's "Largo", it is generally accepted as first appearing in "Suite No. 6", composed for Harpsichord in 1720. This arrangement by James Curnow was created as an educational tool for teaching students both legato (sustained) style and the expressive quality of playing. Though these qualities of performance are not generally considered fun to younger students, compared to playing fast, exciting music with more technical demands, it actually requires a great deal more musical maturity and ability. The percussion part contains the triangle and suspended cymbal parts. Obviously the technical skills required for the performance of this piece are minimal, however the musical abilities necessary to approach such a piece as this are many. The arrangement has been created in such a way so as to help develop both large and small ensemble performance confidence. Even if the arrangement is never performed, it will be a tremendous help in teaching the above-mentioned abilities. Arranger(s): James Curnow Composer(s): George Frederic Handel | Instrumentation:
