As the conductor of Prince Esterhazy's private orchestra, Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn worked with some of the best musicians throughout all of of Europe. This inspired him to create glorious works for solo instruments which he then presented to those accomplished musicians. This sonata in G major was one of these works that he composed for a solo flute with piano accompaniment.
