This collection is a part of Tosti's solfeggi (method for teaching ear-traninig and sight-singing, singing degrees of the scale using syllables (do, re, mi, etc.)) should be doubly welcome to modern musicians. From the didactic point of view it could significantly expand the horizons of singing practice, and at the same time this material should make a valuable contribution to the study of Tosti's complex artistic personality. Two CDs of piano accompaniments are included, along with texts in both Italian and English, discussing Tolsti's important contribution to vocal teaching literature. This time-tested teaching method, which dates back to Tolsti's 19th century lessons in Italy and throughout Europe, might well prove valuable for today's students.
