Estimated Performance Time: Technical Notes: The 1st percussion part is for snare drum and bass drum. The 2nd percussion part is for triangle, castanets, tambourine, maracas, wood block, suspended cymbal and crash cymbal. The keyboard percussion part is for bells and xylophone. The opening section of the music uses the trumpet to establish the noble theme of the matador. It is important that sixteenths are not rushed in the percussion, and then in other instruments they appear. Clarinets and alto saxophone 1 continue the theme at measure 11 with a counter melody in alto saxophone 2, F horn and trombone providing the rhythmic excitement. The eighth notes should be short and precise at measure 40 and again at 44. The bass instruments of the band are featured at measure 48. A good decrescendo is necessary at measure 53 so that the music can build from measure 54 to a forte at measure 56. The staccato notes in measures 54 and 55 will give rhythmic energy and life to the crescendo. Measure 59 brings back the original theme from the beginning of the piece, now in a syncopated, more-energetic form. The fortepiano at measure 69 leads to an exciting and energetic fortissimo at measure 71, which drives to the end of the piece. Composer(s): Douglas Court | Instrumentation:
