John O'Reilly has the ability to create exciting original compositions that are very playable by the first-year band. This overture is no exception. The opening Allegro, set in C natural minor, is driven by the percussion section playing simple but effective sixteenth-note patterns. The slow middle section introduces your band to some major and minor seventh chords that accompany the lovely flute and trumpet melody.
