Linden Lea is a straightforward adaptation of the famous song by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The song is especially familiar in Britain, where the melody is known in virtually every household. Varied instrumental color and slight tempo changes are utilized to heighten the emotional appeal of this attractive melody.

Technical Notes: The Suspended Cymbal & Bells part is labeled "Suspended Cymbal, Bells & Chimes".
Performance Suggestions: In the opening, adhere strictly to the tempo indication - Andante con moto (quarter note equals 96); do not be lulled into taking too slow a tempo. The notes must be connected, as though they were being sung.
Phrasing is indicated by the many breath marks throughout, and a slight pause should be observed between phrases, these being the only places where the players may take breaths.
Beginning with the brass entrance in measure 37, the tempo increases to approximately a quarter note equaling 104. In this section, alter the character slightly by making the notes a little less connected. The opening style returns in measure 46, and here make certain that the eighth notes in the brass and low woodwinds are played tenuto.
The rallentando in measure 52 lasts for two measures. In the last four measures, do not slow the tempo any further, and bring out the instruments which have moving lines.
