Welcome to the fun-filled music world called Dixieland. With its never to be forgotten melodies, well-defined harmonies and uncomplicated rhythms, the Dixieland style is a perfect vehicle for group and individual improvisation. This "Combo Pak" includes the music for "Royal Garden Blues", "South", "Lazy River" and "When The Saints Go Marching In", as well as a cassette tape with horns on the left channel and rhythm only on the right.

Technical Notes: The bass part is labeled "Bass/Tuba". The B Flat instrument part is labeled "B Flat Solo Sheet". The C (bass clef) instrument part is labeled "C Bass Solo Sheet".
In this pack the arranger has tried to recreate the different harmonic and contrapuntal movements that are the essence of Dixieland. When your group gains proficiency, moderate ad lib sections can be used, especially in the last ensemble choruses. Solos can be added to most of the arrangements to fit particular performance needs and to suit the number of soloists in the band. (Piano solos are often last in the solo sequence.)
Be sure the trumpet lead is heard at all times. The tenor sax can often overshadow the trumpet particularly in the trumpets middle and low registers (Many early Dixieland bands didn't use a tenor sax.)
If you have a banjo or guitar, the piano can be freed from a strictly rhythmic function to do simple "comping". On the last ensemble choruses tremolo octaves playing high on the keyboard are very effective.
