In 1934 Benny Goodman started what was the first Benny Goodman big band. But it was that band's premiere performance at the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles, California on Aug. 21st of 1935 that began what is now called the "swing era". Benny quickly moved on adding still new dimensions to swing, and many years later to classical music, giving him a revered place in the annals of music history.
