Born in Illinois in 1914, he had his first horn position at age seventeen with the Kansas City Philharmonic. He remained in that position for three years and then returned to Chicago and became the youngest principal player of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He finished his high school education at night, and went on to teach at Indiana University from 1960 until his retirement in 1984. He designed a horn that is still produced in eleven models today. Farkas passed away in 1992. His students decided they wanted to create a memorial using sound and music. This recording features Farkas discussing different issues and music that he was famous for, along with new works that were created for this CD. All horn players should own this wonderful learning tool. The total running time of this CD is sixty-two minutes.
