Divertimento For Band

Persichetti did not set out to write a wind ensemble work, but was merely working with some woodwind figures accentuated by brass and percussion. He soon realized that the strings weren't going to enter, and the "Divertimento" began to take shape. The work is consistent with the playful, lyrical nature of many of Persichetti's compositions. He varies sections of free chromaticism and dissonance with expressive diatonic passages. This is an excellent piece that would be a great choice for your concert band.
