"Gianni Schicchi", a one act opera by Giacomo Puccini, is the third and final part of his "Triptych". This opera, based on Dante's "Inferno", tells the story of the wealthy Donati, whose relatives gather around his deathbed with exaggerated demonstrations of grief. "Gianni Schicchi" demonstrates Puccini's feeling for traditional comedy that makes it stand apart from his other two one act operas in the triptych, and from contemporary operatic production as a whole.
