One history-making event that had a tremendous influence on the music of the 1940's was World War II. The war and post-war period coincided with the continuation of the big bands of the '30's and the emergence of solo singing stars. Themes of separation and longing for home were prominent in the songs of the period, which helped boost morale, both at home, and on the lines. These songs have been arranged for piano and voice, and the book includes 2 CD's of performances by world-class orchestras.
